America's favorite fence-sitter has finally fallen off.
"I am, of course, disappointed by the results, but I am not discouraged," Lieberman said. "I'm disappointed not just because I lost but because the old politics of partisan polarization won today. For the sake of our state, our country and my party, I cannot and will not let that result stand."

Ummm, no, the reason why you lost was because your attempts to satisfy both parties (which were more of sucking up to the Republicans and alienating the Democrats) made you look like a waffling turd. Pick a side, stop cozying up to the prez, and at least try to choose what’s best for your constituents.
As a friend of mine said, "…the reason I was willing to send money to a candidate in another state was that Lieberman has become a perfect symbol of everything that’s wrong with the Democratic party… [we’re] tired of so-called Democrats like Lieberman playing lapdog for the Republicans."
"…he appeared almost exuberant in defeat, telling supporters at a hotel in Hartford that he planned to run as an independent in November and predicting that he would be returned to the Senate for a fourth term."
e.g., Liberman thinks he’s so important and essential to the well being of this country that he’s going to run as an independent… which means that the chance of a Republican winning the election greatly increases. You think he would have learned that lesson in 2000. If Lieberman were a true Democrat instead of an egotistical self appointed savior, he would be supporting Lamont in the upcoming election.
Better yet, apparently Lieberman's website crashed on Monday and he accused the Lamont campaign of hacking it. It turns out that he hosted it on a cheapo $15/month server and it couldn’t handle the excessive traffic. Gooooood one.
However. The real goal now is for Lamont to show that he’s not just another anti-war candidate. Lamont also must demonstrate that he can attract a broader audience than he did in the primary: he needs to gain the trust and support of other CT Dems who are also on the fence on which candidate to support. This primary has gain national attention - let's hope its momentum will be sufficient to thwart any attempts by Lieberman to get back in the game.
