I just installed a new anti-spam plugin for the blog, because it's becoming quite arduous to have to delete 543 comments in the moderation queue every time I log in. Wordpress provides a spam-blocker plugin, but it only goes so far - you have to specify certain words that will kill a comment before it ever hits the site, but these $#&% spammers keep coming up with new random stuff. For example, I erased about 150 comments that had "shoes" or "baseball" in the comment field.

Anyway, this new anti-spam tool requires a user to enter the word in a box before it will post the comment. Much like any sort of registration or posting process (à la Craigslist), it prevents automated spam-bots from attacking your system with hordes of slimy posts.

We'll see how well this works out, and if it doesn't, there are 25 more anti-spam plugins available to Wordpress users.
